BHUBANESWAR: The state government will set up a Regional Spinal Injury Centre at the
Capital Hospital in the city. This centre will specially focus on patients with spinal disabilities, orthopaedic and neurological problems.

Pratap Jena told media persons here on Saturday after reviewing progress of some projects of his department. It will be the second such centre in the state after the SCB Medical College and Hospital at
Cuttack.
He said the state government will spend an amount of Rs 2.33 crore on this project. The centre will have 12 special beds and required machineries. But the centre will use the operation theatre of orthopaedic department of the Capital Hospital, he added.
Jena said special training will be imparted to the orthotic and prosthetic department on the use of assistive technology.
The minister also informed that two training centres will be established in
Gajapati and
Malkangiri district to train Auxiliary Nurse and Midwives (ANM) for development of their skills. "We will complete all the formalities for set up of the centres very soon. The two training institutes will function from 2018-19. We will enroll 50 students at a time for each centre," said Jena.
