The feud between two communities over reservation took a violent turn in Telangana as Gond Adivasi community clashed with Banjara Lambadas in Adilabad district of Friday

The violent clash was a result of ongoing tussle between the communities as Adivasis of Telangana consider Lambadas as outsider and opposing the reservation status to them under scheduled Tribe quota by the state government.

On Friday the Adivasis noticed a garland of chappals on the statue of legendary Tribal Gond leader Kumaram Bheem. The violence erupted and properties and vehicles belonging to Lambadas were vandalised and torched.

After the violence, the senior police officials rushed to Adilabad district with additional force. On Saturday, the situation remained under control but tense.

A large number of personnel have been mobilised and deployed particularly in Utnoor and surrounding areas of the district for maintenance of peace and public order.

Section 144 Cr.PC has been imposed in the towns of Utnoor and surrounding areas on the district.

Two Companies of Rapid Action Force (RAF) also have been mobilised and rushed to the affected areas.

State police chief M Mahendra Reddy appealed to the public to remain calm and maintain order.

Telangana police have denied any loss of life but said that two persons died in a road accident in Asnapur village.

Earlier this week the Lambadas held a massive public rally in Hyderabad and appealed state government to not come under pressure from Adivasi community. They also warned the government of agitation if they are removed from ST list.
