Noida police to sensitize boys to behave well

NOIDA: Police on Saturday held an awareness programme on "Women Safety", on the eve of five years of Nirbhaya Gangrape incident.

SSP Love Kumar said that there is need to sensetize boys about gender equality. "We earlier held self-defence workshop for girls in academic institutions. Now we have planned to sensitize boys in colleges and academic institutions to behave well. We will form teams and talk to them about women safety. We believe this will yield good results in bridging the gender equality gap," he said.

He said that women should come up and make complain if they face any problem. "The women should display courage and make complaint. Once a complaint is received, police will actively pursue the matter. Their courage will deter the accused and inspire others to raise voice," he said.

Kumar urged people in the gathering to dial women helpline 1090 immediately if they face any problem. He also urged parents not to discriminate among the girls and boys in their upbringing at home.

The SSP said that some people have pre-conceived notion that the police personnel are unfriendly, which is not true. "The city police are very sensitive towards people's safety. We take all complaints seriously and take actions accordingly," he said.

The programme was organised outside the GIP Mall where a group of theatre artists also performed on women safety.
