KOCHI: Many citizens in Kochi are hoping to address various issues like the health of the community, pollution and fuel dependency. They want to turn the city into an exercise-friendly one. Cycling has been an all-time favourite of the city-zens here. Pedal Kochi Cyclothon, which is being organised by the Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) and GAIL (India) Ltd Kochi, at Maharaja’s College Ground, provides an opportunity for the cycling enthusiasts to test the limits of their stamina.

The 8 km fun ride and the competition ride of 21 km will provide the challenge cyclists in the city are craving for. The ride is being organised as part of a 76 city nationwide activation to promote cycling and conserve fuel. “The aim is to create the largest cyclist gatherings in the state in order to lay the foundation towards making Kochi and other cities cycle friendly.

Cycle friendly communities promote fuel conservation. It is also a fun, fuel-free way to burn fat,” said a PCRA official. Log onto www.pedalkochi.com for free registration. The first 1,000 participants will win a free cycling kit comprising a T-shirt, helmet, bag, water sipper and wristband. Reporting time is 5:30 am. The Inspector General will flag off the event at 6:15 am.
