The city police on Friday arrested the man who killed the owner of a paying guest accommodation in Mico Layout on December 12.
Shivashankar (29), a native of Madhubani in Bihar, was picked up from Ludhiana, Punjab.
Giving a statement to the police, Shivashankar said he used to watch the detective series, CID, from where he got the idea for the killing. Shivashankar had made away with Rs 2 lakh that the owner, Thirupal Reddy, had collected as rent.
According to the police, Shivashankar was employed as a cook at the PG for the past six months and stayed with Reddy in the same building.
The accused had switched off the CCTV camera before murdering Reddy, they said. Later, he broke open the almirah and stole the money. His exit from the building was recorded on a CCTV camera at a nearby building.
The police accessed his call records and traced him to a PG in Ludhiana. A Mico Layout police team went to Punjab, arrested Shivashankar and brought him back to Bengaluru.
Reddy (58) was found dead with his throat slit on the ground floor of the Praneethi PG for men in BTM Layout.
