Samastipur/Darbhanga/Patna: Chief minister
Nitish Kumar on Saturday launched a veiled attack on RJD chief Lalu Prasad and his partymen, saying he was surprised to see that those who stood with him in the human chain to spread awareness on liquor prohibition were now speaking against it.
The CM was addressing a public meeting at Jhakra village in Sarairanjan block of Samastipur district on the fifth and last day of the first leg of his 'Vikas Sameeksha Yatra'.
Lalu, it may be recalled, stood next to Nitish at Gandhi Maidan in Patna as they joined the state-wide human chain in support of prohibition on January 21. The RJD along with Nitish's JD (U) and Congress were then the constituents of the Grand Alliance government which made the sale and consumption of liquor in the state an offence on April 5 last year.
Without naming Lalu, Nitish also said that communal harmony was not about sermonising people but living with other communities in peace. He also indirectly referred to the corruption cases against Lalu family and, without taking any name, quoted the a proverb, "Kafan mein jeb nahin hoti."
Earlier in the morning, the CM inaugurated and laid stones of 102 schemes worth Rs 341crore at a public meeting at Shivnagar Ghat under Biraul subdivision in Darbhanga district.
He expressed satisfaction over the progress of various government schemes. "Development is visible in all fields. Roads, bridges, hospitals and colleges are being constructed; youths are being given student credit card and women are being given 50% reservation in panchayati raj and urban local bodies," he said.
The CM reviewed the progress of government schemes at Mahadalit Tola in Kamalpur village where he walked in the bylanes to physically verify the progress of the schemes.
The CM then reached Shivanagar Ghat, where he was given a warm welcome by the villagers. Urging the Jeevika women worker, present in large numbers, to help the government implement prohibition, the CM also exhorted them to contribute to the success of his government's campaign against child marriage and dowry system.
Later in the afternoon, the CM visited Jhakra village in Samastipur, where he inaugurated and laid stones of 116 schemes worth Rs 270 crore.
