Diving facility named in honour of war hero

KOCHI: A new diving training facility, 'Chiman Singh Block', was jointly inaugurated by Chief of Staff Rear Admiral R J Nadkarni and Petty Officer Clearance Diver (Retd) Chiman Singh at the Diving School of the Southern Naval Command on Friday.The facility has been named after Chiman Singh who was awarded Maha Vir Chakra, the second highest gallantry award of the nation, during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. 

The ceremony was attended by Chief Staff Officer (Training) Rear Admiral K Swaminathan and Special Operations and Diving Principal Director Commodore V S Rawat, besides divers from all Commands of the Navy.

The facility houses a state-of-the-art Recompression Chamber complex, a laboratory as well as modern stores. Praising the bravery of Chiman Singh, Rear Admiral Nadkarni exhorted Navymen to draw inspiration from such brave acts.He expressed confidence the name of the block will inspire many generations of young naval personnel to bring honour to themselves, the service and the country.
