Victoria season 3: Will there by another series? Will Jenna Coleman return?

VICTORIA will return to our screens as ITV has recommissioned another series but will Jenna Coleman return to her role as the British monarch?

A third series of the acclaimed series Victoria has been given the green light by ITV and Jenna Coleman will be returning to her role as the monarch alongside Tom Hughes who plays Prince Albert.

It is likely the series will be aired in August 2018 as the other two series premiered in the same month.

ITV’s head of drama Polly Hill said: “Filled with romance, political crises and family drama, Daisy Goodwin’s scripts bring this fascinating part of history to life so vividly and we look forward to regaling audiences with the next part of the illustrious queen’s reign.”

Series two focused on Victoria’s ascension to the throne and her marriage to Prince Albert who is played by Tom Hughes.

However viewers have been told to expect more drama than ever in the third series and it is expected to explore the tensions in the bedroom between Victoria and Albert.

The show’s creator Daisy Goodwin said: “Series three will start in 1848 which was a hugely dramatic and eventful time for both the royal family and Europe, with revolutions on the continent and uncertainty about the monarchy.

“Viewers can expect more drama than ever before in the third series.”

Goodwin has previously told the Express.co.uk she would like the next series to focus on the Great Exhibition - the first international exhibition of manufactured products organised by Henry Cole and Prince Albert.

It was held in a purpose-built Crystal Palace in Hyde Park and was attended by many famous people at the time, including Charles Darwin, Charlotte Brontë, Lewis Carroll, George Eliot and Alfred Tennyson.

The creator has said Victoria is going to have a lot more children in the third series.

The previous series have featured eight episodes and it is likely the third series will also have that many episodes.

Victoria is produced by Mammoth Screen and company managing director Damien Timmer said the next series covers a “tumultuous period.”

Victoria series 3: The next season will feature even more drama

“Jenna Coleman and Tom Hughes shine as Victoria and Albert and it’s an honor to have them back for a third series, which covers a tumultuous period in our country’s history,” Timmer told Variety.

“Filled to the brim with royal scandals, political skirmishes and constitutional crises, as new historical figures enter the saga to challenge Victoria and Albert as never before.”

It is likely other cast members will return alongside Coleman and Hughes in the third series, such as David Oakes as Albert’s brother Prince Ernest, Daniela Holtz as Baroness Lehzen, Margaret Clunie as Harriet, the Duchess of Sutherland, Nell Hudson as Mrs Skerrett and Ferdinand Kingsley as chef Francatelli.

There is also set to be new characters as Victoria explores the next chapter of the famous queen’s reign.

A Christmas special will be aired on Christmas Day (Monday 25 December) and will be called Comfort and Joy.

The two-hour length episode will see tensions flare up between Victoria and Albert over the festive period.

Speaking about the Christmas special Goodwin said: “It's going to be amazing. It’s going to be the most Christmassy Christmas special ever made, I would say.

“There’s snow, there’s ice, there’s dramatic rescues, there’s dogs, there’s proposals, there’s everything you could possibly want.”
