Saligao: The Sirsaim Tourist Taxi Owners Association has objected to private taxi operators conducting business at the Thivim railway station. The association claims that the private operators are illegally plying their vehicles at the station, which has in turn affected their business.

The Sirsaim tourist taxi operators, who are affiliated to the North Goa Tourist Taxi Owners Association, are also being supported by Mapusa Block Congress president, Vijay Bhike.

"Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has also supported these tourist taxi owners, and he had submitted a memorandum to the chief minister to initiate action against the private taxi operators. But no action has been forthcoming till date," Bhike said.

President of the Sirsaim Tourist Taxi Owners Association, Shekar Kandolkar, said that they didn't want to engage in a face-off with the private taxi owners who have been operating since the past 4-5 months. He said that passengers alighting from trains tend to opt for the private taxis as they quote cheaper rates.
