Maupin to officially be charged with 2nd degree murder

ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - The Gladstone woman charged with the drowning death of her infant daughter was back in court on Friday.

Judge Steve Parks ordered Michaela Maupin's case to be bound over to the circuit court on charges of second degree murder and second degree child abuse.

The charges stem from an incident in October of this year when Gladstone public safety responded to a call of an unresponsive fifteen month old child. Police found Maupin's daughter on the floor in the front room of the home.

Attempts were made to resuscitate the child but she was later pronounced dead at OSF hospital.

Maupin was arrested the next day after it was determined that she had placed her daughter in a bathtub with the water running and left her alone for an, as of yet, undetermined period of time..

A date for Maupin's trial has not yet been set.
