Munger: Armed criminals looted cash, wrist watches, cellphones and other valuables from passengers travelling in a general coach of Danapur-Sahebganj Intercity Express (13236 Down) between Kajra and Abhaypur railway stations on the Kiul-Bhagalpur section of the East Central Railway around midnight on Friday.

The train was running 3 hours late, police said on Saturday.

"Passengers who resisted the loot bid were assaulted with pistol butts. Three injured passengers were rushed to the hospital after the train reached Jamalpur railway station," said GRP's Jamalpur SHO Kripa Sagar.

Superintendent of railway police Shankar Jha said one group of criminals each boarded the general compartment of the train at Lakhisarai and Kiul railway stations. "They started looting the passengers soon after the train left Kajra, and got down with the booty when the train reached Abhaypur station," he said.

An FIR has been lodged in the Jamalpur GRP station. "Cash to the tune of Rs 30,000 besides 15 mobile sets and some wrist watches are said to have been looted," SRP Jha said and added the victims belonged to Munger, Bhagalpur and Sultanganj.

He admitted no escort party could be provided in any train from Kiul onwards on Friday due to disruption in train movement by youths demanding job in the railways at Bhagalpur railway station. "We will nab the criminals soon," the SRP said.
