Mainpuri teen allegedly gangraped, set afire: One held; CM Adityanath takes note

One of the three youth accused of gang raping and burning a girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri was arrested on Friday night.

Sachin Gupta will be produced in court and sent to jail on Saturday, Mainpuri superintendent of police S Rajesh said, adding that a hunt is on for the other two accused --- Ashish Gupta and Panchi Jatav.

The SP also that a report on the status of the case has been sent to chief minister Yogi Adityanath, who had sought the same from him and the district magistrate. The SP has sought financial assistance for the victim.

The girl, who turned 18 recently, was set on fire by the three youths after she complained to the police that they had been gang raping her for the last six months.

She suffered 40% burn injuries on her body, including stomach, and was being treated at Saifai hospital in Etawah, but was shifted to Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital.

SP Rajesh said Mainpuri MP Tej Pratap Singh Yadav too had taken note of the matter and was in Delhi.

The girl, a BSc student, was with her grandmother (85) in their house in Kurawali town of Mainpuri district when she was allegedly set on fire. One of the absconding accused resides near her house.

She had given her statement to the magistrate when in Saifai hospital.

The accused have been charged under sections 376D (gangrape) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC, besides POCSO and SC/ST Act.

The POCSO sections were added after she revealed that they had been gang raping her for the last six months, before she turned 18.

SP Rajesh also suspended Rohtash Singh, the in-charge of Kurawali police station on Thursday for being negligent in informing about the matter to senior authorities in time.

The district magistrate has ordered a probe by a three-member committee.
