COLONIE -- A Cohoes woman suffered serious injuries after a collision with a tractor-trailer sometime before 3:45 a.m. Saturday at Route 9 and Lawrence Avenue in Latham, town police said.

The woman, 26, who police have not named, was driving a 2002 Mazda when she entered Route 9 from Lawrence Avenue directly into the path of a 2018 Freightliner tandem tractor-trailer owned by ABF Freight that was heading south.

Police noted that the intersection is controlled by a traffic light and evidence shows the truck had a green light and was traveling legally on Route 9.

The truck driver, also not named, is a veteran professional driver from the York, Pa., area and was uninjured. No charges are pending against him, police said.

The woman was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital by Colonie EMS. Her injuries are to the head, hips, and legs, police said. Her name is being withheld until more relatives can be notified.

Colonie police were assisted by the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, state Department of Transportation and the Boght Fire Department.

A section of Route 9 from Dunsbach Ferry to Boght roads was closed in all directions for about six hours but later re-opened. The crash under investigation by the Colonie Police Traffic Safety Unit.

Future charges are possible, according to police.
