Indo-Bangla Maitri Park inaugurated by Sarkar
The Mukti Juddhas (Freedom Fighters) trained in Chottakhola, which was also used as a burial site for them.
It was the decision of the Tripura Government to convert the area into a park and museum. In the year 2010, the then Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Dipu Moni laid the foundation stone of the park. The park covers 20.20 hectares which includes seven hillocks and a lake.
Many sculptures of the Indian Army and the Mukti Juddhas are placed next to a beautiful rose garden in the park. Two statues, one of 'Bangabandhu' Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and another of former Indian Prime Minister India Gandhi, were erected in the park to attract tourist. The state government spent seven crore rupees to built the park.
On Saturday, after inaugurating the park, CM Manik Sarkar said, "We want to create close relations with our neighbors. A bridge is being constructed over the Feni river in South Tripura between India and Bangladesh. We have the same culture, language and history, but some evil forces are active in both the country to destroy our relations."
Freedom Fighters from Bangladesh and eminent personalities from both the countries were present during the inauguration of the Indo-Bangla Maitri Park at Chottakhola. Singers and writers of Tripura and Bangladesh attend in the programme. The artists from both the side performed at a cultural programme following the inauguration.
State Health Minister, Badal Chowdhury, Forest Minister Naresh Jamatiya, Water Resource Minister Ratan Bhowmick, Lok Sabha MPs Jitendra Chowdhury and local MLA, Sudhan were part of the inaugural program.
