To create awareness about the ill effects of alcohol, the Karnataka State Temperance Board (KSTB) will launch awareness programmes from January, said Board Chairman H C Rudrappa.
He was speaking at a meeting of officials in Madikeri on Saturday.
He said, "consumption of alcohol is an individual choice. However, there is a need to create awareness of the ill-effects of alcohol."
The state gets an income of Rs 18,000 crore from excise department. However, there is a need to create awareness among people not to become victims of alcohol.
The board will organise programmes to create liquor-free villages. It will organise exhibitions and seminars in schools and colleges and hold street plays to create awareness.
