After a humbling 120-run defeat to Australia in the second Test, Joe Root’s men have their backs against the wall.

Alastair Cook has struggled for runs, managing just 62 runs in four innings across the series.

The third Test which takes place at the WACA ground in Perth, which has been far from a happy hunting ground for the tourists.

England have only ever won one Test in Perth and that victory came in 1978.

Root sent an urgent message before the start of the third Test, demanding they ‘stand up and be counted’.

“In the face of adversity, people want to see you put in big performances and prove why you have been chosen to play for England," said Root.

"If we get that right there is no reason why it can't be 2-1 this time next week."
