SOUTH BEND – Notre Dame wide receiver Chase Claypool will miss the Citrus Bowl with a right shoulder injury, Brian Kelly said Saturday.
He sustained the injury in Tuesday's practice when he went up for a ball in a one-on-one drill and landed on it wrong. He will have surgery this coming Tuesday.
The loss is tough for the Fighting Irish because Claypool became a top target for quarterback Brandon Wimbush this season. The sophomore was second on the team behind Equanimeous St. Brown with 29 catches for 402 yards and two touchdowns. His most productive game was when he had nine receptions for 180 yards and a touchdown in a 48-37 win over Wake Forest.
Notre Dame will play LSU in the Citrus Bowl at 1 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
