Man City vs Tottenham: Lampard was not impressed with the defending by Spurs today

Manchester City extended their winning run in the Premier League to 16 games at the Etihad.

Goals from Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne and two from Raheem Sterling sealed a comfortable 4-1 win, with Gabriel Jesus also missing a penalty.

It was the first goal in particular which irked Lampard the most, as Gundogan stooped to power home a free header.

Lampard described the zonal marking from Tottenham as a “mess”, claiming they made it far too easy for the Manchester City man.

It’s a mess from Tottenham’s point of view, nobody is marking man-to-man, the zone-boys don’t attack in the zone

“He’s strolled in and made it so easy for him,” Lampard said on BT Sport.

“It’s good quality in from (Leroy) Sane, there’s pace and whip on it.

“Gundogan does well because he feigns that he’s not interested, he’s saying there ‘I’m playing with my sock, I’m not too bothered, I’ll sit out on the edge’.

“It makes nobody actually pick him up himself.

“Where Tottenham fail here is they have two people in the zone, Harry Winks is in the zone centrally.

“But when the ball comes into your zone you have to attack it.

“Gundogan strolls in, gets one of the easier headers he’s going to get.”
