DETROIT — Zach Hyman blossomed in his final season in the NCAA when he scored 22 goals for the University of Michigan in 2014-15, and his college linemate figured it won’t be long before something similar happens in the NHL.

“Once he gets more confident, I think he will be an even better player,” Detroit Red Wings forward Dylan Larkin said.

“He is a role player, he understands that and and he will do anything for the team. When he gets more confidence, I think you will see him be able to use his speed in one-on-ones and beat guys more and score some pretty goals.”

Before Hyman’s outburst in ’14-’15 — he also had 32 assists, giving him 54 points — Hyman had a total of 35 points in his first three NCAA seasons.

Heading into Friday night, Hyman had six goals and 10 assists in 33 games this season. In his NHL career, Hyman had 20 goals and 30 assists in 131 games.
