Laboratory tests on Dalapoottuwa’s tusks begin
Laboratory tests on Dalapoottuwa’s tusks have commenced.

The Director-General of the National Zoological Department Dhammika Malsingha stated that the investigations have commenced following a court order.

She further said that investigation will determine whether the tusks belong to Dalapoottuwa.

Previously, the Mahawa Magistrate permitted to take away a small fragment of the pair of tusks of the slain iconic Galgamuwe Dalapoottuwa and its 6 elephant pearls to Colombo for further tests.

The Magistrate issued the order after considering a request made with the support of a detailed report by the Acting Director of the National Zoological Department and the CID.

At the same time, Mahawa Magistrate, Rasika Mallawarachchi permitted the Acting Director of the Zoo to send the fragment of the tusks and the elephant pearls to the Gem and Jewelry Authority and the Valuation Department.
