B’Baria district council chairman assaulted

Brahmanbaria district council (Zila Parishad) Chairman Shafiqul Alam has been assaulted by miscreants after placing wreaths at a liberation war mausoleum in district town on Saturday morning.

Witnesses said a group of people attacked Shafiqul, also a freedom fighter, at the mausoleum immediately after he paid tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War by placing wreaths on behalf of Zila Parishad.

The attackers also tore Shafiqul's Punjabi. Later, his followers beat a BCL activist Jahirul Islam for the attack, reports UNB.

Nabir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said that he was not present at the spot but later he has heard the incident, UNB added.
