PORVORIM: The government has constituted a committee to expedite, monitor and ensure timely construction of the new south Goa
district hospital. "The work is expected to be completed by May 2018," said chief minister
Manohar Parrikar in a written reply before the Goa legislative assembly on Friday.
Former chief minister
Digambar Kamat had sought the status of the project which was being implemented through the Goa state infrastructure development corporation (GSIDC). The much-delayed project was planned for and initiated during Kamat's tenure as chief minister in the Congress-led coalition government in 2008. The
House was informed on Friday that the work was awarded at a negotiated price of Rs 99.60 crore in December 2015.
In his reply, Parrikar stated that nearly 70% of physical progress and 47% of financial progress has been achieved on the project as on November 30.
The delay in completion of the new district hospital has been a cause for concern as the structure of the
Hospicio is in a dilapidated state.
