HYDERABAD: An uneasy calm is prevailing in the Agency areas of North Telangana districts following violent clashes between the Adivasis and Lambadas that occurred on Friday.

The two groups, both falling under the ST category, are at loggerheads over Adivasis protesting against Lambadas getting ST status which is depriving them (the Adivasis) their share in reservations.

A day after the two groups clashed and the Adivasis damaged the properties of Lambadas including some vehicles, a wine shop and a hospital, Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel were sent to Adilabad and Kumram Bheem districts and stationed at Utnoor, Adilabad and other sensitive towns and tribal hamlets.

With Adivasis and also Lambadas giving a call to observe state-wide bandh, the police are on a high alert in tribal-dominated districts of Adilabad, Kumram Bheem, Khammam and Kothagudem districts.

Bus services have been suspended in entire tribal areas and Sec 144 has been imposed in Utnoor area. Apart from it, internet services have also been suspended as rumours are spreading fast about 'attacks' creating more tension in the region.

The situation is also known to be tense in Kothagudem district.
