These athletes were chosen for the week ending Dec. 9.

Boys Basketball

Aaron Henry, Ben Davis

In a three-game span against Franklin Central, Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South, Henry scored a combined 62 points and pulled down 33 rebounds. In the Terre Haute South game alone, Henry scored 31 points and 10 rebounds. The senior is averaging 19 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Girls Basketball

Mackenzie Blazek, Whiteland

In a win over Martinsville, Blazek scored 29 points and had 23 rebounds, nine blocks and seven assists. Earlier that week in a win over Triton Central, she scored 28 points and added nine rebounds. The senior center is averaging 17 points and 14 rebounds per game for the Warriors, who are 9-1 on the season. She has signed to play basketball at University of Illinois.

Boys Swimming

Jackson VanWanzeele, Plainfield

On Dec. 5, VanWanzeele captured the top 50 freestyle time in the state with a time of 23.19 seconds in an event at Franklin. VanWanzeele is a sophomore and currently ranks No. 11 overall in the state for swimming.

Girls Swimming

Sydney Whiteley, Centerville

Just weeks into the season Whiteley has had a record-breaking season. She broke the Centerville record in the 50 free with a 25.35 in a dual meet against Connersville. In that same meet, she also took home the 100 free. Whitely also dominated the Eastern Hancock Invitational, winning the 50 free, 100 backstroke, 200 medley relay and 200 free relay.

Wrestling

Tanner Dreher, Covington

Dreher is 8-1 on the season after going 5-0 at the North Putnam tournament. Dreher wrestles in the 182 pound weight class.

INDYSTAR SPORTS AWARDS

Reggie Wayne – six-time Colts Pro Bowl wide receiver and a leader on the Colts’ Super Bowl XLI championship team – will headline the 2017 IndyStar Sports Awards, coming Sunday, April 29, to Clowes Memorial Hall at Butler University.

The third-annual Sports Awards will honor hundreds of high school athletes nominated from across Indiana, with 28 awards for specific sports as well as at-large honors such as Male and Female Athletes of the Year.
