MCGAHESYVILLE, Va. (WHSV) — December 15 is the day many have been waiting all year for: Not only did Star Wars: The Last Jedi premiere in theaters, but the ski season has officially started at Massanutten Resort!

Kenny Hess, director of sports and risk management at Massanutten, says the start to the season is one of the best the resort has ever had.
"This is definitely in the top three or four as far as the amount of snow we've been able to make prior to opening and the amount of terrain we're open on on the first day," Hess said. "We have all of our trail lifts open, we're skiing from the top of the mountain off lift six and lift five, so that's always a bonus, and we're super stoked."
A skiier from North Carolina was raving about how great the start of the season was.
"I've run in to people that say, you know, they were here 10-20 years ago, it's like 'Oh yeah, there's not much there,'" Meimei Ma said. "They don't know what they're missing!"
This January, the resort will start their "Monday Madness" program, where a portion of the proceeds from each lift ticket and rental is donated to a different charity every Monday in January and February. The event also features a free beginner lesson.
The resort has a new program this year as well called "Mini Riders" for children four to six years old who want to learn to ski, but are too young for the full-day program.
