Snow UK forecast: Will it snow today and tomorrow? Where will it snow?

ARCTIC air will send temperatures plummeting once again when a cold front sweeps into the UK today and over the weekend.

For the most part, the worst of the winter weather is over but it will remain cold as a northerly breeze is bringing arctic air across the country

Nevertheless some showers on Friday afternoon, tonight and into Saturday morning may fall as hill snow in northern parts of Scotland.

Showers will continue through Friday but they will ease and be replaced by sunny skies which will develop across many parts of the UK.

A yellow warning for ice has been issued by the Met Office from 5pm on Friday until 11am on Saturday.

Snow UK forecast: A yellow warning for ice is affecting eastern and western parts of the country

The warning covers northern Scotland and mainly the western and eastern sides of the country, which are going to experience the Arctic blast.

The warning said: “Ice will be a hazard in places on Friday evening and Saturday morning. The extend of hazard looks like being somewhat lower than preceding days, but where wintry showers fall, or there is still patchy snow cover, icy stretches are likely on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.”

Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern said: “Nevertheless it will bring some rain and sleet showers into northern Scotland parts of eastern England and a few filtering down coastal parts of western areas.”

Temperatures will feel cold down the eastern side of the country where there is a brisk breeze for the rest of the day.

Tonight and tomorrow morning might see some snow over higher ground, mainly in the northern parts of Scotland, with showers mainly hitting coastal areas through the night.

“Where those showers come and go and with those temperatures falling away there is risk of some icy patches by the start of the weekend,” Mr McGivern said.

“A widespread frost and temperatures in rural spots dipping well below freezing.”

It will be a chilly start to the weekend and there will be plenty of sunshine around, however showers will still affect eastern areas but they will ease through the day.

UK Snow forecast: Snow is forecast to hit northern parts of Scotland at 6pm tonight

The country will see an area of cloud pushing towards Scotland and into Northern Ireland, Wales and western parts of England. This will bring a few more showers during the day, however nothing particularly heavy or persistent.

Mr McGivern said: “For most actually Saturday is looking like a fine day but it is going to stay on the cold side.”
