Tension in Honnavar after girl attacked

KARWAR:Tension gripped Honnavar town for a while after a schoolgirl was attacked by two miscreants at a nearby village on Thursday. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC were imposed in the taluk for 24 hours, following the incident.

According to the police, Kavita (name changed), a ninth standard student from Kodlagadde, was walking towards her school at Magodu, which is seven-km from her village. On her way to school, two persons, who were hiding behind a bush, attacked her near Malagundi village.

The attackers are said to have gagged the girl with cloth and tried to abduct her. When she attempted to escape, they allegedly attacked her with a knife, causing minor injuries.She ran away from the spot and reached a neighbouring village which was 3 km away. With the help of a shopkeeper, she informed her parents and got admitted to Honnavar government hospital.
