Srinagar, Dec 15 (IANS) Senior separatist leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq was detained here on Friday after he broke house arrest restrictions to join a separatist-called protest rally to Anantnag.

As Mirwaiz Umer came out of his Nigeen residence on the city outskirts, police deployed outside prevented him from moving out and again put him under house arrest.

The Hurriyat leader had earlier announced on his Twitter page his plan to visit Anantnag.

Separatists have called a protest rally to Anantnag on Friday to show solidarity with town residents.

Authorities have imposed restrictions in Anantnag and six police station areas in Srinagar city to foil the rally.
