Exit polls predict victory for BJP in both Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh
The benchmark BSE Sensex surged over 200 points in the opening trade as the exit polls have unanimously predicted the BJP emerging victorious in both Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh with a comfortable majority.
While the News Nation and Today’s Chanakya-News 24 polls predicted the BJP getting a mean of 120 and 135 seats, respectively in 182-member Assembly, the Aaj Tak-Axis exit poll said the BJP would get 99-113 seats and the Congress 68-82.
The polls also predicted a complete sweep for the BJP in Himachal Pradesh. The surveys showed the BJP winning upwards of 42 seats in the 68-member Assembly with the Congress getting between 13 and 23 seats.
Soon after voting ended in the second and final phase of the election, an exit poll gave the BJP 115 of the total 182 seats and the Congress 65. Another exit poll gave the ruling dispensation 108 seats and 74 to the opposition Congress.
The Times Now-VMR Exit poll predicted 115 seats for the BJP, 64 for the Congress, and the remaining for other parties. The Republic-C Voter Exit Poll gave the BJP 108 seats and the Congress, 74. A poll on NDTV said the BJP would get 112 seats and the Congress 70.
At 9.30 a.m., the 30-share BSE index Sensex was up 302.34 points or 0.91 per cent at 33,549.04 and the 50-share NSE index Nifty was up 90.4 points or 0.88 per cent at 10,342.50.
