rape and murder in the last three years, and put 10 on death row in the last two years. In another case, fast trial is on in Sonipat. The accused in Uklana minor's
rape and murder case, which had chilling similarity to Delhi's December 16, 2012, Nirbhaya case, still remain at large. TOI compiles these dark reminders of the day.

on January 20, 2017: Three men get death sentence, another acquitted
Out to release a rat from a trap, a. girl from a primary school in Rewari and the only daughter of a poor widow, went missing. Her brutalized body was found in bushes near Ateli railway station the next day. Police arrested kiosk worker Arun Kumar (30) and his friends Rajesh (24) and Deepak (24) — all from Ateli — and Sanjay Choudhary of
Bihar. Rajesh ran a dhaba (roadside eatery) and Arun a ration depot, while Sanjay worked at the railway station. Arun, Rajesh and Deepak were given death sentence, while Sanjay was acquitted. A 24-year-old private factory employee from Sonipat was kidnapped while on way to work. The accused in case include Sumit and Vikas. The victim had spurned Sumit's wedding proposal and complained to police. The accused wanted to negotiate if her mother would withdraw her complaint against Sumit. The factory worker was taken to a private hotel in Rohtak, drugged and gangraped repeatedly. She was taken to a place outside Rohtak, where her rapists smashed her head after inserting sharp objects in her private parts. Sumit and Vikas are under trial in Sonipat. In the final stages of the trial, the victim's brother was charged with raping a widow living with the family. The family says it's a pressure tactic to break it. This Nirbhaya's ordeal continues even after death. The cops who took her body to PGIMS, Rohtak, for autopsy marked it as of "unidentified male"

A mentally challenged woman went missing from her sister's house in Rohtak and was found dead in the city outskirts. Doctors found condoms, blades and gravel inside her body. The accused were arrested within a week, put on fast trial, and seven convicted. "How many times will Nirbhaya die? Culprits like these should be dealt with a heavy hand," the judge had remarked while handing out the death sentence. The trial was over in 10 months.

The 6-year-old daughter of a poor couple went missing from the family's makeshift tent in Uklana town of Hisar district. Her corpse bearing injury marks, with a stick inside her private parts, was found near a telephone exchange, leading to outrage among the Uklana locals and traders. Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar hands over the case to a special investigation team led by a DSP-level officer. Police have announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh for any clue to the culprit(s) but received no lead. They have already questioned 45 suspects identified by the cyber cell. Local traders observed a shutdown on Wednesday.
