Nadine Dorries has taken a swipe at fellow Tory MPs who voted against the Government

Mrs Dorries made her remarks in the wake of the Government’s defeat in the Commons on Wednesday night, when 11 Conservative Party rebels torpedoed a key piece of Brexit legislation ensuring Parliament will have a vote in any deal before it is implemented.

But the MP for Mid Bedfordshire said in doing so, they had simply opened the door to Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn by inflicting a humiliating defeat on the Government.

She said: “The cheering of the Labour MPs on the benches opposite was not quite as loud as the celebratory party which took place in Jeremy Corbyn’s office shortly afterwards.

“That could be heard in the car park outside. Even a Marxist-loving Labour MP who supports Brexit, slipped out of the building, unable to resist the opportunity to put a glint in the eye of comrade Corbyn. The man who said he would be prime minister by Christmas.”

Jeremy Corbyn was

Mrs Dorries  – who has a history of rebellious behaviour herself, having been temporarily suspended by her party in 2012 after agreeing to appear on the reality TV show I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here – added:  “The rebels — ex-ministers, barristers, a banker and a marginalised doctor — represent the consensus of the political elite who have only one objective, to overturn the referendum result.

“Despite the fact that all 11 voted for the referendum in 2014, stood on a manifesto to present it in 2015 (when they thought they were going to win) and again in 2017 to honour the result, they have tried to play extending the end game ever since.

“Their ultimate goal is believed to be to secure a majority in the house to delay Article 50 and if Article 50 is delayed, will we ever leave?”

She said Remainer Tory rebels may claim they respect the referendum result but say so “with a forked tongue” as they say they also want to stay in the single market and customs union.

However, she reminded the rebels of the law of unintended consequences, pointing out that they had simply succeeded in emboldening the Labour Party.

'A Marxist government had knocked on the door and 11 Tory MPs had slid back the bolt.'

Tory MP Nadine Dorries

She said:  “As we left parliament on Wednesday, Corbynista MPs had a spring in their step. They had, with the help of our own MPs, defeated the government.

“They had found their mojo. In contrast, many Conservative MPs felt betrayed and angered. A Marxist government had knocked on the door and 11 Tory MPs had slid back the bolt.”
