White House Chief of Staff John Kelly’s ouster of Omarosa Manigault Newman this week has boosted the morale of the president’s West Wing team who saw her as a disruptive force.
“There weren’t any tears shed over her being shown the door,” said one White House associate. “It was a morale boost for the staff,” added the insider. Manigault Newman said she resigned after meeting with Kelly.
While loyal to the president, Manigault Newman was described as a diva who arrived with unusual demands. For example, they said that she wanted a personal assistant and tried to poach staff.
What’s more, she often popped into meetings uninvited.
Officially, her role was running communications for the White House Office of Public Liaison. She was tasked to help include African Americans in White House actions, but insiders say she struggled with it.
While she has threatened to reveal her “story” about what she saw in the Trump White House, the president’s team has publicly been nice to her and are keeping her on the payroll until January 20 so that she can say he worked a year for Trump.
But, said a White House advisor, “she won’t be missed. Nobody cares.”
