New airport terminal maps has been added by Apple that provides check-in locations, dining option and shopping outlet that will be a part of the Apple Maps app in iOS 11 indoor maps feature.
As a part of iOS 11 beta 34 airports around the world can avail the feature that will include airports in the U.S, UK, Switzerland , Canada and Germany.
There will also be navigation and accessibility information that will have icon for elevators and bathrooms.
The Apple Maps will passively connect to the Wi-Fi hotspots to get the user’s location instead of the GPS technology which is found spotty in airports.
The user need not connect to Wi-Fi for the geo location feature function and it can gather what level of the terminal the user in on to avoid confusion.
The incorrect and missing information can be reported by the users to the Apple Maps team. Features like Uber and Lyft will already be integrated in the Apple Maps app.
Due to the cost and complexity of creating interactive digital maps, airports and airline could not offer.
However Apple is working with airports across the world but currently it is catering to only one Asian airport.
Morgan Johnston, manager of corporate communications for JetBlue said that Apple coming into the space is a huge opportunity to heighten their integration.
They had earlier done some experimentation to add maps within their app, but it was cost prohibitive to add all their airports.
