New Delhi: Continuing its crusade to save the environment, National Green Tribunal (NGT) has instructed Vaishno Devi Shrine Board to limit the amount of Kadhi-Chawal that one can eat at the Bhandara before starting the climb to the shrine. NGT has directed the Shrine Board to restrict the total amount of Kadhi-Chawal to 100 Grams to protect the environment around the shrine. The restriction is not applicable to people who are returning after visiting the shrine and they can eat as much as they can.

While most of the people were left scratching their heads over the logic behind this decision by NGT, several environmentalists have welcomed this step and praised NGT for at least doing something.
Speaking to Faking News, an NGT member said ,”Well, we had earlier restricted the number of devotees in a day to 50,000 but that didn’t really help us at all because average number of devotees per day was already below 50,000 so we had to think of something else to save the environment around the shrine. Then we noticed that some people really stuff themselves with food before they start the climb and then they damage the roads with that extra weight, making it riskier for other people. Additionally, they end up releasing a lot more harmful gases in the environment and we definitely didn’t want that so we have introduced this limit of 100 Grams.”
Meanwhile, to reduce the pollution further, there is also a proposal to ban all donkeys and horses being used at the shrine and to make it mandatory to reach the shrine only by a helicopter.
