Munger stinks as sanitation staff stir on

MUNGER: Garbage and civic problems seem to be mounting for Munger town residents as the indefinite strike by 275 sanitation workers of the area entered its fifth day on Friday.

Sanitation workers (safai mazdoors), employed under an NGO Mahila Niketan, are demanding payment of salaries due to them.

A delegation also met the municipal commissioner Shyamal Kishore Pathak on Friday and conveyed their decision that they were no longer prepared to work under the NGO due to irregular payments. The delegation also urged the civic official to attach the sanitation workers with the Munger Municipal Corporation.

Meanwhile, SDO (sadar) Dr Kundan Kumar has intervened in the matter. He will soon discuss the issue with the NGO concerned, striking employees delegation and corporation mayor to find out an amicable solution. TNN
