Father of 2 killed in tea estate

A father of 2 was killed by his brothers-in-law following a family dispute in Woodville Estate in Agarapathana last evening.

Our correspondent said the victim was 36-year-old Ramaiya Periyasami, who was a labourer at the estate.

Last evening, the deceased had assaulted his wife and hearing her screams, the 2 brothers of her had rushed to the scene.

Thereafter, they had attacked Periyasami with a mamoty.

He died while being taken to the hospital.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased had suggested his wife to commit suicide with children due to relentless financial issues.

He had also bought a bottle of poison for that. However, he had assaulted his wife as she had refused to support his idea.

The body is kept at Nuwara Eliya Base Hospital for post-mortem and the 2 suspects will be produced before Nuwara Eliya Magistrate.
