St Catherine residents in fear of gangsters
Residents of Victoria district in St Catherine have expressed frustration and sadness about the criminal acts, including murders, that have disrupted their community.
Some residents said that the crime is crippling the financial viability of the district.
"Shops have to close, persons are out of jobs, some moving out, and those who decide to stay are being killed by these gunmen who are just showing no regards for life are property," a resident said.
The community, which is situated outside Linstead, St Catherine, has been plunge into mourning following the murder of two persons on Tuesday.
The police confirmed those killed as Carlos Wilks, 47, and Donnette Doyley, 42.
Reports are that they were at home when gunmen invaded their premises and shot them to death.
The gunmen also set fire to the house before escaping in the community. Residents say criminals have been overrunning the area.
"Bwoy, place lock up and some people decide to go live elsewhere, as dem bwoy ya can't tame; dem just come in and shoot anyone dem feel like," a female resident said.
Some reasoned that the uncertainty of life is so serious that each day they awake, it's like a privilege.
Meanwhile, a member of the Linstead police said that initial investigations reveal that there is a fight among gang members for turf.
This, the police said, is responsible for the spike in criminal acts taking over the community.
It was revealed that the police will be intensifying its approach in the area with a view of getting the crime under control.
