Chief Electoral Officer Abhijit Sinha along with the winners of the state level national election quiz competition held in Kohima on December 15.

Dimapur, Dec. 15 (EMN): Two students namely Merio N Ngullie, Class XII student, and Kekhriese Yhoshu, Class XI student, both from Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School, Kohima, have been selected to represent the State in the semi final of the national election quiz competition scheduled in New Delhi in January 2018.

As directed by the Election Commission of India, the first ever national election quiz was conducted during November and December. The quiz was conducted on intra- school competitions, followed with district round where winners of the intra-school competitions participated and the State round, where winners of the district rounds have participated.

In the State round conducted on December 15, teams representing seven districts had participated. The performances were instantly evaluated and the team of Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School was declared winner.

At the end of the one hour quiz competition held in Kohima, Abhijit Sinha, Chief Electoral Officer, addressed the participants and teachers. He said that the primary objective of the Commission was to engage the young students in the age-group of 14-17 years- the future voters, in a self-learning exercise about the electoral process so as to build an informed electorate in near future.

He also thanked all the other participants and asked them to work harder for similar competitions that would follow in near future and appealed to all to disseminate the message on increasing qualitative participation in terms of ethical and informed voting to all the parents and friends as people of Nagaland are going to polls in early 2018.
