The district official website which is supposed to contain all information regarding the district is very shabbily maintained.
Either it is not updated from time to time or it carries wrong information. On the one hand it is lacking adequate information on different matters and on the other the information of web portal is misleading.
The portal is maintained by the National Information Center (NIC). For instance, Eastern Range Police Head ,Binaytosh Mishra, when he joined, he was in the rank of Inspector General , yet in website he is cited in the rank of Deputy Inspector General.
Similarly, the ZP President in the current term while is Nibedita Mohanty after PRI elections in March, yet the portal shows Umilata Das, the previous president of Zilla Parishad, in the post.
Nilgiri MLA Sukanta Kumar Nayak still can be found as assistant engineer RWSS. The previous Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Harsh Bardhan Udgata while is being transferred for more than three months, but his name is still there.
Even some officers who died some years ago still their names can be found in the portal. There are many flaws in the names and designations of the officials.
There is absolutely no information about several key departments. Baleswar although has officially 22 tourist destinations, yet in the portal one can find only four, including Chandipur beach , Khirachora Gopinath temple ( Remuna), Panchalingeswar (Nilgiri) and Chandaneswar (Bhograi).
“Once the website doesn’t contain information about the tourist spots of Baleswar, how can one expect taping of local tourism potential? The persons residing outside the State or country will never know what are the places to visit in Baleswar,” said advocate Parsuram Pradhan.
When asked, NIC officer Rabindra Pradhan shifting responsibility said that the departments were not providing updated information for uploading.
“Despite several reminders to departments, they don’t providing information. The NIC only uploads,” said Pradhan.
The corrections are not been effected till date although ZP president Nibedita Mohanty brought the matter (flaws) to the notice of the district Collector.
Collector Pramod Das said, “All the departments would be instructed to submit correct information to the NIC and the latter would be asked to effect update and correction in the portal at the earliest.”
