Telanagana Police on Thursday arrested Rajesh, the Prime accused in the sensational face-off case in Hyderabad and produced him in the court in Nagarkurnool.
A police team took him into custody at the DRDO Apollo hospital on Thursday morning after doctors discharged him from the burns ward. With his face masked and both the hands covered in plaster, Rajesh was brought out of the hospital in a wheel chair and whisked away in a police vehicle.
Rajesh was admitted in Apollo about two weeks ago with burns on his face and body inflicted by his lover Swathi Reddy as part of a sinister plot.
Police had arrested 28 Swathi Reddy on December 9 on charge of murdering her husband Sudhakar Reddy.
According to the police Swathi had conspired to replace her husband with Rajesh by disfiguring latter and make him under go plastic surgery.
The incident which occurred on the intervening night of November 26 and 27 has sent waves of shock and dismay in small town of Nagarkurnool. Swathi, a mother of two had developed illicit relations with Rajesh, a physiotherapist after visiting his clinic two years ago.
Police officials said that more details of the conspiracy will emerged after questioning Rajesh. “We will find out whether the idea of killing Sudhakar Reddy came from Rajesh or Swathi”, said a police official.
“As far as motive is concerned, it seems that after getting attracted to Rajesh, Swathi had developed differences with her husband”, he added.
It has left both the families of Sudhakar Reddy as well as Swathi devastated and they were recovering from the shock.
According to the police Swathi and Rajesh had meticulously planned to eliminate Sudhakar Reddy and take his place to lead a normal life. After the brutal murder and burning of the body, Swathi decided to disfigure Rajesh’s face with his willingness. Rajesh, to ensure that his face was not burnt seriously applied a cream on his face and also covered his lips with plaster.
However the real identity of Rajesh was revealed when Sudhakar Reddy’s parents noticed his strange behavior and physical appearance distinctly different from their son.
On an alert from the family Nagarkurnool police took up the investigation and questioned Swathi. During the interrogation she confessed to the crime and identified the place where the burnt body of Sudhakar Reddy was disposed by the duo.
