The Marion County prosecutor's office has filed formal charges against an 18-year-old for his alleged involvement in the shooting death of Kevin Rodgers, a prominent doctor and Indiana University educator.
Ka'Ron Bickham-Hurst, 18, faces one count of felony murder and one count of burglary in connection to the slaying, as well as one count of burglary and four counts of theft in an unrelated matter, according to the prosecutor's office.
Rodgers, 61, was found face-down in the kitchen of his northwest-side home shortly before noon on Nov. 20, according to a probable cause affidavit. Investigators believe he walked in on a burglary when he was shot.
A juvenile male was also arrested in connection with Rodgers' death, but any charges filed against him would be pursued in juvenile court, according to a spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office.
Rodgers was the program director emeritus of the emergency medicine residency at the IU School of Medicine and an assistant lacrosse coach at Cathedral High School. He was also the president of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.
Bickham-Hurst is scheduled to appear for an advisement of rights hearing on Dec. 18 at 8:30 a.m.
