Aberdeen is getting ready to place itself as a world-class cruise destination.
And it hopes that the new deepwater harbor of the city would lure cruise vessels with up to 5,000 passengers and crew members on board.
Currently talks are underway to make sure that Aberdeen is ready to welcome the predicted influx of tourists with work ongoing to bring about a high quality package of attractions and experiences for a typically moneyed group of tourists.
Heritage, whisky and a beautiful natural environment are deemed to lure in passengers in the city and the surrounding region with VisitAberdeenshire in order to appoint a full-time project manager for the cruise industry.
But then the city’s capability to transport this number of tourists away from the new South Harbour, that is scheduled to open in 2020.
It is considered one of the ‘biggest logistical challenges’ to Aberdeen raising its share in the fastest growing cruise sector of Scotland that is already worth approximately £76 million a year.
The business engagement manager at VisitAberdeen Elaine Booth mentioned that the on the ground transport is among the greatest challenges they have been confronting with as they prepare the region to develop into a globally acclaimed cruise locale.
Some of the larger cruise ships could have up to 5,000 passengers and crew that require transport to get them from the South Harbour to their destination.
The expanded cruise business is likely to be a boon for the regional bus and taxi companies as pointed out by Aberdeen’s research.
