Schools, colleges set for X’mas bash

PATNA: Several city schools and colleges have geared up for Christmas celebrations. Campuses are being decorated and readied to reverberate with hymns of Christmas carols like 'Joy to the World', 'Jingle Bells', 'Jesus Born Today' and 'O Holy Night'. A stage play on 'birth of Jesus Christ and his message of love, tolerance and brotherhood' is a must for the celebrations.

Notre Dame Academy, Mt Carmel High School (MCHS) and St Joseph's Convent High School (SJCHS) will organize a colourful Christmas function on December 22. Principal of SJCHS Sr Lucina CJ said it's a time of giving, receiving, sharing and caring. "That's what we want to teach our students. The school will conduct a prayer service to be followed by carol singing," she said.

The theme of Christmas celebration at MCHS will be 'Love, Peace and Harmony', said its principal Sr M Serena AC. Charles Dicken's 'A Christmas Carol' will be staged and other cultural events will also be organized by the students.

Students of St Karen's High School will celebrate Christmas on its annual day on December 16. School principal Seema Singh said, "The highlight of the programme will be a musical play on 'The Giving Tree' by primary section students. Secondary section students will present a play on 'Unity and Diversity'. School administration will also organize an interbranch carol singing competition on December 20."

St Michael's High School will celebrate Christmas on the theme -- 'Love and Serve Others'. School vice-principal Fr Prakash Anthony SJ said, "Participants will showcase an array of events like western dance, Christmas dance and carols. Two students from each class (each section) will receive gifts on lottery system. Three secondary students will play Santa Claus and distribute gifts and candies among kids." It will be celebrated on December 22.

Christmas celebration at Loyola High School and St Xavier's High School will be on December 20. Prayer services, singing and dancing will be the highlight of the celebration. The programme will conclude with the distribution of cupcakes among kids.

All India Anglo-Indian Association (AAIA) will hold a grand carol singing contest at Don Bosco Academy. More than 20 schools and colleges will participate in the contest.


The celebration at Patna Women's College is to begin on Friday with a carol singing competition. Christmas programme for students will be on December 20 whereas 'Christmas milan', a special for transgenders and rickshaw pullers, will be organized on December 21.


Aman Raj, a Class VII student of DBA, said the celebration marks the beginning of winter break. "We get more free classes for practice."


A Class IX student of NDA, Shambhavi, said, "During free classes, we decided where to celebrate Christmas and New Year. We are planning to organize a party on Christmas and sleepover on the New Year eve."
