Tata Motors recently rolled out the Tigor Electric Vehicle (EV) from its Sanand plant in Gujarat. Now, the automaker has delivered the first batch of EVs to Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).
As part of the government's initiative to procure 10,000 electric vehicles, EESL had called for a tender.

Tata Motors had qualified as an L1 bidder and had to deliver 250 Tigor EVs in the first phase. CEO and MD of Tata Motors, Guenter Butschek handed over the keys of the Tigor EVs to Saurabh Kumar, Managing Director, EESL, accompanied by the senior management teams from both the companies.
The Tigor EV is a pure electric, zero-emission styleback which is built on the existing internal combustion engine model. For ESSL, the Tigor EV will be delivered in three variants - Base, Premium and High and will be available in ‘Pearlescent White' colour with blue decals.
The Tigor EV is equipped with single-speed, automatic transmission. The electric drive systems for the electric vehicle is developed by Electra EV, a company established to develop and supply electric drive systems for the automotive sector.
Butschek said, "With Tigor EV, we have begun our journey in boosting e-mobility and will offer a full range of electric vehicles to the Indian customers. This tender has effectively paved way for connecting our aspirations in the e-mobility space with the vision of the Government."
Tata Motors also stated that the company is fully committed to the government's aim of shifting to pure electric vehicles by 2030 and will work collaboratively for faster adoption of electric vehicles in the country.

Electric vehicles are said to be the future of mobility and India is also planning to adopt the zero-emission vehicles. But the primary challenge for the electric vehicles is the lack of charging infrastructure. We expect the government to act fast to set up charging stations across the country to encourage the use of EVs.
