UPDATE 2: Destiny 2's The Dawning Christmas event won't feature Sparrow Racing.

There was no mention of the Sparrow Racing League in Bungie's announcement, so it looks unlikely to make a comeback.

It's possible Bungie will add it as a surprise, but the developer is remaining tight-lipped for now.

UPDATE: Destiny 2's The Dawning Christmas event has been given a release date by Bungie.

The Dawning will start on December 19 on PS4, Xbox One and PC. It runs all the way until January 9.

The Dawning introduces snowball fights, the Mayhem in the Cold Crucible event, Milestones of Winter and the ability to send and receive gifts.

"Keep your blood warm and your heart pumping in the Crucible," Bungie explains. "Mayhem is back, so your abilities recharge faster. Point values are cranked up enough to melt the ice. It's anarchy—and it's awesome."

Fans can also unlock new rewards, or purchase Dawning gear from an in-game vendor. You can check out The Dawning Christmas event in the gallery below.

ORIGINAL: Destiny 2 fans are about to find out more about the Dawning Christmas event on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Destiny 2's first seasonal event The Dawning will be given a release date later today.

That's according to Bungie community manager Deej, who was asked if he knew when The Dawning was coming.

"I do," he replied. "And tomorrow, so will you."

Fans can expect to find out The Dawning release date later today. Based on the time difference, the release date is expected to be announced from 5pm onwards.

We should also find out exactly what will be included in The Dawning event on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

What we do know is that the Christmas event will be a celebration of the founding of the Last City.

Fans will be able to participate in seasonal snowball fights and unlock new winter-themed gear.

Likewise, social spaces will also get a festive makeover, similar to Headquarters in Call of Duty WW2 Winter Siege.

There's even a suggestion that Sparrow Racing will make its Destiny 2 debut as part of the event. This is according to a recent datamine.

The news comes as Destiny 2 receives a major update that address recent controversies.

The latest Destiny 2 patch introduced Masterworks versions of Legendary weapons which track and display kills.

The update also introduces the option to directly purchase Faction armour and weapons for Legendary Shards and Faction Tokens from "most" Faction vendors.

Content locked behind the Curse of Osiris DLC will also be available to players.
