The Sheriff's Office says she knew she gave the victim fentanyl.
SARASOTA COUNTY -- A woman has been charged with manslaughter after a man's fatal overdose.
According to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, Lisa Ross, 40, provided Michael B. Galler, 39, with furanylfentanyl, an opioid derivative, on Jan. 6 in the 4100 block of Marseilles Avenue. After injecting the drug Galler began having seizures. EMTs responded and gave Galler two doses of the opioid-reversal medication naloxone and transported him to a hospital, where he died on Jan. 8. The medical examiner determined that Galler died because of deprivation of oxygen due to intoxication of furanylfentanyl and cocaine.
An investigation determined that Ross knew the drug she gave to Galler contained fentanyl.
Ross, who was arrested Thursday and charged with manslaughter, remains in the Sarasota County jail without bail.
"This is another example of our four-pronged approach to tackle this growing problem in our community and across the country," Sheriff Tom Knight said in a news release. "We work carefully to educate, prevent and treat those who need help but enforcement is our true priority. We will continue to aggressively investigate these overdoses and put dealers behind bars, until we eliminate the supply and demand of these deadly drugs."
