CHANDIGARH: Cash-strapped Punjab government is sending Rs 200-crore proposal to the central government to take up construction of link roads in the state under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

Punjab PWD minister Razia Sultana on Thursday divulged that link roads in the state are constructed by the mandi board and the public works department. "Since the state government is not in a financial position to complete these projects, the proposal is being sent to the central government," the minister reasoned. The minister said that the proposal has been approved by the state finance department.

Meanwhile, the minister revealed that the central government had not released its share of central government schemes despite the fact that the state had long back sent the required utilization certificates to the central government authorities.

Asked about the non-release of social security pensions after April, the minister said that she had discussed the matter with finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal and the amount would be released at the earliest.
