If you find yourself desperately ducking and dodging Star Wars spoilers online, this brilliant app could solve all of your problems.

Star Wars Episode VIII The Last Jedi was released in UK cinemas today.

The blockbuster follows on from the events of JJ Abrams’ Star Wars The Force Awakens, which debuted in 2015.

Unfortunately, a number of social media posts, reviews, and news articles have been a little too liberal in how much detail they reveal about the plot.

Force Block is a simple extension for Google Chrome that warns you whenever you’re about to visit webpages that could contain Star Wars spoilers.

The pleasantly geeky extension warns you with classic lines from the space opera series, including "That's no moon, it's a spoiler" and "The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of spoilers." 

The Chrome extension first launched to help cinemagoers avoid details of The Force Awakens, but has been updated to recognise spoilers from The Last Jedi.

The helpful Google Chrome extension is built by digital production company Priceless Misc. 

Head of production for the company, Matthew Tyndall, confirmed the extension had been updated to detect Star Wars Episode VIII spoilers this week.

"Just updated last night once we found where Luke was located," he said. "Thanks R2!"

Be warned – Force Block is quite sensitive, and will likely block some webpages that don’t reveal any crucial third-act spoilers about the new movie.

But that’s mostly by design.

According to the developers behind the extension, “Force Block was designed to be smarter than your average filter. To do this we built logic that would flag the page based on the severity and quantity of spoiler-rich wording.

“Some words that register lower on the scale and would take a higher quantity of appearing on a page to activate the blocker; while some words and phrases that we knew were very likely spoilers would block the page instantly.

“No system like this can be perfect of course, so we erred on the side of caution.

"Whats worse for the user, having to click through a few false warnings, or have a plugin that let an important spoiler slip through the cracks? Assuring the user would have have the lowest likelihood of being spoiled was paramount.”

Force Block lets you Whitelist any sites to override the built-in filter.
