Canadians Tristan Walker and Justin Snith reached the podium for the first time this season in doubles, scoring bronze at the luge World Cup event in Lake Placid, N.Y., on Friday.

The German tandem of Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken took gold in the two-run event and extended their overall series lead, while Peter Penz and Georg Fischler of Austria finished second.

Snith and Walker were fourth after the first run, but climbed into third after a mistake-free second run to capture their third career doubles podium, and first since 2015.

The doubles luge duo from Alberta won bronze at the FIL Luge World Cup event in Lake Placid, N.Y. 1:45

"Having two consistent runs and getting on the podium is something that has been few and far between for us for a few years," said Walker.

"It feels really good, especially to do it in Lake Placid."

Snith was also pleased with the result but believes it is best to take things day by day. "We can't get ahead of ourselves. We need to keep working the way we have these last couple of weeks — taking things one day at a time. These results show us that if we are consistent, we are in the top-six."
