TROY — Police Chief John Tedesco has told his staff that he plans to retire in January after more than 40 years with the Troy Police Department.
Tedesco has been chief since 2010, when he was appointed by former Mayor Harry Tutunjian. During his earlier tenure as assistant chief, Tedesco served as acting chief after the retirement of Chief Nicholas Kaiser.
Tedesco has served in many of the department's divisions, and was actively involved in community policing. He helmed the department as it dealt with two fatal shootings by police officers in the line of duty.
Mayor Patrick Madden will now have to commence selecting a replacement to lead the 130-member department.
